Diversity On-Scene Advocacy Initiative is part of the Diversity Center of Oklahoma, the only National Gender Diverse & 2S-LGBTQ+ Community Resource Center serving in the Greater Oklahoma City area. “Sexual and gender minority” is an umbrella term for individuals who identify as transgender, two-spirit, nonbinary, intersex, queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, and/or Individuals with same-sex or-gender attractions or behaviors and those with a difference in sex development are also included. 2019 Williams Institute Report “Discrimination Against LGBT People in Oklahoma” there are approximately 113 ,000 individuals in Oklahoma identify as gender and sexual minorities (GSM). Currently, Oklahoma does not have statewide laws specifically to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The lack of protection for gender and sexual minorities continues to leave this group of marginalized and disenfranchised people vulnerable to harassment and discrimination. With these types of barriers, gender and sexual minorities are statistically more vulnerable to be a victim of domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking and less likely to have access to receive treatment. On Scene Advocates are houses in the Diversity Center of Oklahoma (DCO), the Gender Diverse & 2S-LGBTQ+ Community Resource Center is in the heart of the “Gayborhood”, we are located on NW 39th in the Gay District and easily accessible to gender and sexual minorities including disenfranchised and marginalized people of color. Our advocates may be able to assist participants with victim's protection orders (VPO), temporary shelter, including other basic needs.
